Growing Community one Partnership at a Time....
In 2007 Green Venture began working with its neighbour Community Access to Child Health (CATCH) to provide regular volunteer driven community garden programming to Parents and Toddlers.
Through the CATCH Neighbourhood Planning Committee, a Hamilton Community Foundation TPTII Building Communities initiative, Green Venture Children's Garden program received $5000 in funding. This money went a long way towards providing consistent weekly garden programming to parents and children (ages 2-5yrs) which included kid-friendly garden skill building, healthy snacks, field trips (Ottawa Street Farmers Market & Dundurn Museum's Kitchen Garden), community kitchen activities, garden crafts and more.
In September 2009 the Children's Garden program partnered with Plant a Row Grow A Row (www.growarow.org) an organization dedicated to people-helping-people programs that assist in feeding the hungry in their own communities. The Plant a Row Grow a Row Jr. program provides resources including demonstrational videos designed to encourage kids to garden and grow food for themselves and their community. Green Venture's Childrens Garden program was featured in one of these videos: Garden Pizza Pie
Many thanks to the partners that made our video a reality: Hamilton Community Foundation, City of Hamilton Public Health, OPIRG McMaster, Plant a Row Grow a Row and the Compost Council of Canada and of course CATCH!
